As an RN for seven years, working with chronically and critically ill patients, Kathy practiced holistically, recognizing that there is more to treating the patient than just treating the illness. Kathy brings this same holistic approach to Powerful You! ~ not just focusing on one aspect of a women’s life. Instead she embraces the mind, body and spirit, realizing that it is important to the “whole woman” to maintain a balance.

Kathy also found that relationship building was key to achieving the ultimate goal of the wellness of patients. Open communication and functioning within a team of health care providers, families, the entire hospital staff and the patient was what produced the best results for everyone involved. At Powerful You! we recognize that building relationships is the key to building businesses and enhancing lives.

Education and teaching is also something that comes naturally to Kathy. Education was critical to the health and well-being of patients, just like it is to women in business. One of our focuses of Powerful You! is to provide information, experience and knowledge through networking, workshops and seminars.

As a Project Manager, Kathy bridged the gap between engineers and nurses for a small technology firm that designed hardware and software for Computer Bedside Charting. She wrote and implemented technical specifications for new Software Modules, managed live Alpha and Beta testing in major hospitals throughout the US, and presented technological information at Sales Meetings. This work experience provided a basis of computer technology skills and knowledge that Kathy uses with Powerful You! to develop the website and internet presence, ongoing email interactions with subscribers and to assist Powerful You! members with technological challenges.

In 1994, Kathy teamed up with Sue Urda to start Network Display, Inc., a manufacturer of signs and displays for the point-of-purchase industry. The company provided products to the likes of Pepsi-Cola, Krispy Kreme, Guinness, Champion, Nathan’s, and many other display companies and brokers. Having never worked in manufacturing, Kathy was challenged to oversee the operations of the company, including managing 50 employees, product design, manufacturing, shipping and receiving and human resources. All the while, maintaining the growth of the company was at the forefront.

Most of what Kathy learned to succeed in this business, she learned on the job without much help from outside sources. Working as a team, Sue and Kathy grew the company significantly, and in 2002 Network Display, Inc. was named to the Inc. 500 Fastest-Growing Private Companies list, an honor bestowed by Inc. Magazine. In the same year, they won several design awards from P.O.P. Times, a display industry leader.

Transitioning from manufacturing to something more meaningful was a decision that Kathy and Sue made in 2002, when they felt an urge to make “more of a contribution to what matters in this world”. For two years, they spent time exploring how they were to make their mark. They created an Internet Commerce website marketing health and wellness products and creating newsletters to educate individuals on wellness. Kathy studied internet marketing with PMG Mentoring, a company that provides training for online commerce and marketing, training that she now uses to promote Powerful You!. She also became involved with many networking groups and a publishing company.

It was with this 10 year experience of entrepreneurship that Kathy decided it would be wonderful to be able to share her knowledge with other women who were starting, creating and growing their own businesses. In December 2004, Sue and Kathy dreamed, designed and formulated Powerful You!, Inc. into the company that exists today.
