There are many foods in our supermarkets that contain some form of Vitamin D which are added synthetically, but there are only a select number of foods containing vitamin D in them naturally. But it’s not just Vitamin D that’s essential, but an assortment of other vitamins and minerals that are required by the body for its optimal functioning. And one of the foods containing all of them is ground psyllium husk powder, a probiotic that also keeps the gut bacteria healthy.
Normally our bodies take in Vitamin D from the sun and through the skin. In this day and age, we find ourselves spending more hours inside our homes, cars and shopping malls, and then probably at work. Our actual exposure to the sun has become very limited. Fresh, wild-caught tuna is the most nutritious. Remember, eating oily fish can also lubricate the body with “good fats. In turn, the health benefits provide better memory and brain function.
Eggs have a small amount of vitamin D. The best bet would be to eat free-range eggs from a local farm.
Obviously the sun is not food, but a daily dose of sunshine can seriously increase your Vitamin D intake. When sunlight hits the skin, the sun’s rays stimulates the production of vitamin D. For those of you who live in colder and cloudier climates, you will have to supplement your diet. This is why the Native Inuit people in Alaska eat a lot of fish. If you are a vegetarian, you will either have to take supplements or try to get out into the sunshine as much as possible.
