Recently, as I was putting together a list of the top leadership qualities in people, I saw with amazing clarity, why this is true and what our challenges are.
Women have so many natural characteristics of leadership. Our femininity is ripe for leadership, yet, we are barely making a dent. It’s important to note that great leaders are made, not born, so each and every one of us has the opportunity to hone our leadership skills and become the leader we want to be.
Here are some of the top qualities that great leaders possess. See if you can detect the common areas we are great at vs. areas we can improve in.
Great leaders are able to put their own feelings aside and look at what is best for their team as a whole.
Leaders should attempt to get as many details about a situation as possible before making their decision.
Great leaders always proclaim their decision and then stand by it 100%, even if they are secretly indecisive.
Good communication skills.
Good leaders keep their team members apprised of all decisions that affect the team.
honesty, For the good of their team, good leaders share as much information as they possibly can.
Consistently tell the truth, keep the communication lines open and keep your team’s best interest in mind.
Now, tell me, don’t you agree with me, that women process a lot of these qualities naturally? YES, YES, YES…
So Ladies, it’s time to get your Feminine Gutsy Leadership mindset ON…
The question is are you tapping into your edge? Are you showing the world your authentic feminine gutsy leadership skills? Where can you improve?
…rate yourself on the above qualities, and if you are not where you want to be, which area can you improve upon? Communication skills? Decisiveness?
Decisiveness is a common challenge I see in my clients.
Women tend to second guess themselves, why? because they think too much and that leads to Procrastination. Procrastination is the opposite of Decisive.
In the New “Think and Grow Rich for Women” book (released June 2014, remake of 100 yr. old original book with a women’s perspective in mind), Napoleon Hill’s study of successful people, who had accumulated fortunes, showed that “every one of them had the habit of reaching DECISIONS PROMPTLY & of changing these decisions SLOWLY if and when they were changed.
It is a reflection of our confidence and studies are showing that confidence is just as important, if not more than, competence when it comes to leading and succeeding.
“When you make the right decision, it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks” – Caroline Kennedy
